Madison - Wisconsin Higher Educational Aids Board (HEAB) Executive Secretary Connie Hutchison announced today that the Minnesota-Wisconsin Interstate Tuition Reciprocity Memorandum for 2004-2005 has been approved by the Joint Committee on Finance. Wisconsin students can continue to choose Wisconsin or Minnesota colleges or universities at in-state tuition rates.
The Minnesota-Wisconsin Interstate Tuition Reciprocity Program allows Wisconsin residents to attend state colleges, universities and technical colleges in Minnesota for approximately the same tuition costs as a comparable school in Wisconsin. Minnesota residents have the same opportunities to attend Wisconsin schools.
Executive Secretary Hutchison noted that, "Annually, more than 10,000 Wisconsin residents take advantage of this program. This is a very popular program that essentially doubles the higher educational opportunities for our students."
Governor Jim Doyle expressed his support of the Minnesota-Wisconsin Reciprocity Agreement.
"Thousands of Wisconsin residents have taken advantage of this program for more than 30 years," Governor Doyle said. "The Minnesota-Wisconsin agreement is a great partnership and is a win for our students."
Connie Hutchison emphasized, "Though all Wisconsin residents are eligible for reciprocity, there is an application form for reciprocity students that must be completed and processed by HEAB." She stressed that participation is not automatic. Applications for reciprocity are available from high school guidance counselors or from the HEAB website at http://heab.state.wi.us. Residents can also call HEAB at (608) 267-2206.
