WELCOME TO NEW HEAB STAFF MEMBER
Michelle Massen has been hired as an Office Management Specialist, filling a position that has been
vacant since February, 2004. Michelle spent many years in the College of Letters and Science Dean’s
Office at the University of Wisconsin Madison, and began work at HEAB on May 2. Michelle is a great
addition to our staff.
RETURN OF FUNDS POLICY
The WASFAA State Issues Committee worked with Connie Hutchison on the HEAB Return of Funds Policy
while at the WASFAA Conference. There will be very little change to the current policy
other than that it will be rewritten to clarify the intent and extent. The proposed changes will be
presented to the HEAB Board for possible action at the July meeting. To view the current policy,

Drug Convictions Affecting State Aid: College student convicted of certain crimes re
controlled substances ineligible for a state grant, loan, or work assistance

Indian Student Assistance Grants: Indian student assistance grants: maximum amount
increased and tribal matching contributions eliminated

UW Schools Tuition Limits: Two-year limit on increases in undergraduate resident
tuition and nondiscretionary segregated fees at the University of Wisconsin System.

Please address refunds to Nancy Wilkison, or mention on the outside of
the envelope that this is a refund.
Money is very tight and processing refunds in a timely manner is important. When returning funds,
please include the following:
Student first and last name
In order to process refunds we must have this information. If the information is not provided, the
refund is held-up. Please call the grant specialist for assistance if needed!
Student’s SSN
Disbursement Code (which program, i.e.; TIP, WHEG, TG, etc.)
Your 3 digit HEAB school code
Academic year and semester of award being returned (Or HEAB voucher number)
Check number and date of check being sent back to HEAB (Not the # and date of original award check
unless it’s the same check being sent back.)

HEAB conducts one-day training programs for new and continuing financial aid administrators. The
training session covers all aspects of the programs administered by HEAB, including:
The program begins at 10:00 a.m. and ends no later than 3:00 p.m. It is held at the HEAB
offices at 131 W. Wilson St, Suite 902, Madison, WI. We have room for up to 6 people at each
session.
